Positioning Systems

Positioning systems are basic components for the sample handling in the laboratory automation as well as for handling tasks in the measurement, test, and assembling automation. AJ Cybertron develops and produces since many years compact linear axes for different strokes and working loads as well as gantry systems for fast positioning tasks in the cartesian room.

The outstanding characteristics of the products from this area are their compact design and the numerous options for creating different module combinations. The use of the latest materials allows high acceleration and final speeds to be achieved in highly-focussed applications.

As a development-oriented company AJ Cybertron is naturally able to comply with special customers requests and to develop and produce special solutions. Our team of specialists looks forward to new challenges.

The Sigma Drive+ linear axis system features an extremely compact design. The combination of short construction length and a long stroke, flat construction height and a broad guidance range provides for the space-saving installation of the axis system into compact machines. The drive, measuring system, spindle, guiding devices and interface components are integrated into the basic body. The integrated design of the electronics system enables a single cable to be used, thus eliminating the inconvenience of separate cables for the measuring system, reference switch and power supply for the motor. The system is supplied wired and ready for direct connection to a control system. It is suitable for use in any applications that call for precise and rapid positioning capabilities. Examples of these types of requirements include handling systems for measurement, testing and assembly tasks or sample handling.

The Tiny Drive axis system is the smallest in its class and features an especially compact design. The combination of short construction length and a long stroke, flat construction height and a broad guidance range provides for the spacesaving installation of the axis system into compact devices or machines. The drive, measuring system, spindle, guiding devices and interface components are integrated into the basic body. The system is supplied wired and ready for direct connection to a control system and is ideally suited for use in those applications that call for precise positioning capabilities – examples of which include measurement, testing and assembly tasks in the area of micro-mechanics or the focussing of lenses used in laser technology.

The robots in the field of plate handling are used for automating analysis devices, that were originally operated manually and now automatically provide these devices with micro-titer plates and/or sample carriers. After the analysis has been completed, the sample carriers are removed from the device, inserted into a stacker or applied to subsequent downstream processes. (Example plate gripper)

The 2D-System can be used as filling stations for fluids, automated fraction collectors and for liquid handling. They are built up using a solid stackable protective frame, which holds trays for micro- and deep well plates, vials and other sample containers underneath the extension arm. A motion controller equipped with a CAN Bus, which is mounted on the rear of the system, allows any number of systems to be controlled from a single computer cable.

The High Speed Gantry is an optimized competition product to fast linear motor arrayer. The table top gantry is much lighter with comparable specific values. The main purpose of the device is dispensing liquids to slides or biosensors. It is possible to disense 10 dots per second with a repetitive accuracy better then 5 μm (0.2 mil). The working space of this compact 3 axis device is 6 microplates. The system can also be equipped with changeable 1 to 8 channel dosing heads with disposable tips at the z-stroke. Fast and accurate providing, blending oder distributing of liquids from microplate to microplate or to slides allows high throughput production. Also powder or solids can be processed using a capable head. For customer specific applications, the system can be modified in working area or dosing head.

The Mini Gantry robot is characterised by its small installation dimensions in relation to its large operating range. The use of stationary motors allows the moving masses to be kept especially low. High acceleration and a compact design are the key advantages. The x and y motors can be wired without the need for a cable-drag and the synchronous belt drive ensures silent running. The system is supplied wired and ready for connection to a control system. The Sigma Drive+ from our CYBERGEAR® program is particular suited for the z-stroke. Typical applications are those that call for rapid positioning capabilities in the Cartesian working area. These include paletting and de-paletting functions as well as assembly, dosing and inspection tasks.

The Micro Portal robot is suitable for quick and accurate positioning tasks in small application areas. Small samples or slides can be moved accurately. A unique characteristic of the micro portal robot is its space-saving, robust and maintenance-free construction. Thanks to this, extremely compact systems can be realized. The working area is 80mm x 20mm. It is powered using DC servo motors.

Examples of application:

Under a stationary dosing head, a slide is moved in xy direction. A stationary light source penetrates the sample from above and a stationary receiver below (back lighting) registers the absorption of the sample. When doing so, the sample is moved, light source and receiver are arranged in a stationary manner.
